OVERCOME BOUNDARIES
I burn with curiosity to canvass the unknown and
look for new horizons (face new challenges).
It sharpens my senses and gives me the opportunity
to constantly discover new approaches.
This curiosity helps me, in my daily journey, to create a balance
for a more respectful interconnection between humankind and nature.
The biodynamic methodology gives me the feeling,
to have conquered an important boundary.
THE BIG PICTURE
In biodynamics we consider a farm, like ours, and it’s environment as a whole.
We people, the animals, and its surrounding nature
is a reciprocal conditioned organism in itself.
No part in this synergy can be viewed isolated nor exist on its own.
This Idea is ultimately an idea of relationship. Everything is connected, and only
observation of these linkages give insight on the true nature of life.
INTERCOMMUNICATION AND INSPIRATION
The synergy doesn’t stop at the verge of our farm.
Since the foundation of our winery, the exchange with other vintners
and people who work in biodynamic agriculture is an important component of our work.
We draw inspiration from our surroundings and impart our own Ideas and impulses.
We like to share our own experiences with friends of our wines.
USING THE POWER OF NATURE
The biodynamic principle fulfills my deep desire to encounter nature in a respectful way.
Therefore we use strong natural remedies, to promote the vines natural strength and vitalize the soil.
We are determined, too deploy biodynamic remedies such like horn silica, horn fertilizer, valerian blossom, dandelion, and oak bark, within the Demeter principles.
For us the preparation of the remedies is a collaborative task,
which creates a bond between people and nature. The harvested plants and mineral substances are buried, to bring their changed structure out in nature.
A cycle is created…
TO BLOOM MEANS TO LIVE
The revegetation of our vine rows with a variety of herbs and blooming plants, ensures a sanctuary for small animals and insects.
To promote biodiversity is an important aspect of our work in the vineyard.
The complexity, which is offered by nature is reflected in our wines.
WAY DOWN SOUTH
Where we are? Way down south! The Markgräflerland is a diverse cultural landscape near the alps and the black forest.
The gorgeous Rhine Valley and the Alsace are not far. The landscape is shaped by meadow orchards, fields, woodland, open space and vineyards.
The potent soil provide our vines ideal conditions to flourish.
It is a vivid place…
THE ATLANTIC AND THE CLIMATE
The Belfort gap, between the vosges and jura mountains is the gate for mediterranean airstreams from the Rhone Valley, which provides a mild climate all year around.
The clouds coming from the Atlantic Ocean, shed their moisture
over the black forests western hillside, guarantee adequate rainfall.
The sunshine duration is above average. Therefore our region, is one of the sunniest and warmest in Germany.
This unique combination in the south-western corner of Germany is the ideal premise for our doing.
OUR VINEYARDS - INSPIRING PLACES
Our Weiheracker is a plot, facing the south-east.
The JURACHALK residual soil with a top layer of loess
imparts our Auxerrois with a shimmering minerality and complexity. The limestone in the Markgräflerland is indeed an extension from the Jura mountains. A grape growing geographic wonder. The wines resulting from this expressive vineyard are rather slender, elegant, and dynamic. The limestone imparts a crispness to the wine - We love it!
The southern slope Hellberg, with its clayey soil on an early trias from the tertiary era, has particularly fertile soil. This geological rarity in the „Markgräflerland“ region is the perfect home for our red wine grapes.
Above the Rhine with a breathtaking view to the Swiss Jura and the Grand Ballon in Alsace our Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Franc vines ripen beautifully and produces juicy and
fruity wines with an elegant and mineral body.
Our Vineyard Geigenmantel is a unique place attached to the Hellberg.
The plot also has a clayey soil on an early trias from the tertiary era.
The plot faces the west and therefore has plenty of sunlight
for the perfect ripening our white burgundy grapes.
This exposition, lets our wines to be rather round, fruity, and juicy but with an elegant and mineralic taste.
NEVER THE SAME
The synergy of vine and soil elevates my inspiration to create complex and vivid wines.
All are different, all are independent, never the same
And most important, all of them bring joy.
In harmony with nature, craftsmanship and soul embrace each other.
Our Grapes are picked by hand and ferment spontaneously on the wines natural yeast.
The matured wines stay unadorned and are bottled unfiltered.
